Team Approach to Care of Persons with Lower Extremity Limb Loss
From surgery to ongoing gait analysis and treatment, care of persons with lower extremity limb loss is a team effort. Other topics that can accompany limb loss, including phantom limb pain and psychosocial issues, will also be addressed. Join therapy and prosthetic professionals to learn and team build for better patient outcomes. Returning by popular demand, Donald Gajewski, MD (Director of the Center for the Intrepid) will close the conference.
OBJECTIVES
Upon completion of this educational activity, participants will be able to:
• Discuss team-based support of the person with lower limb loss, from surgery through community reintegration
• Cite prosthetic selection criterion and candidacy levels
• Discuss the benefits of evidence collected through digital scanning to improve prosthetic management
• Review the current best practices to manage phantom limb pain
• Initiate screening and referral of appropriate patients with depression and/or substance abuse issues
• Relate gait analysis outcomes and treatment options for improved prosthetic gait
• Discuss new directions in the care of persons with LE limb loss
