Accessibility Professionals Association (APA) - Plano Regional Training 2016

Description: Join us for the next Accessibility Professionals Association (APA) Regional Training and Receive up to 8 hours of  ICC, AIA and/or TDLR approved* credit. (*note several of this courses were offered at the 2016 Annual Meeting in January)

Course Summaries

• 8:30 a.m. - 10:30 a.m. - Title II and III

  • ​TDLR self reporting, AIA/CES APA 171 2 LU/HSW, ICC #7301 0.2CEU

  • Speaker - Michael Love, APA Past President, Atelier Design

  • Attendees learn about the legislative and legal requirements for Title II entities and the types of facilities and services covered and not covered under Title III as well as requirement for barrier removal and path of travel.

• ​10:30 am-12:30 pm- Contract Questions Access Specialists Should Carefully Consider and Architectural Access Plan Reviews:Tools, Tips

  • ​TDLR Self-Report, AIA/CES APA 141 2 LU, ICC #7892 0.2CEU

  • Speaker -James L. E. Terry, AIA, APA Specialist, LEED AP, CASP, CEO, Evan Terry Associates, Co-chair-Education and Events Committee

  • Using a Contracts Checklist, we will identify key differences between access consulting services and design services that should be considered in writing services contracts.  We will discuss Plan Review Tips to  improve the quality and speed of access reviews of architectural and site drawings.

• ​1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. - Complete Variance Application How 2 - Two hour TDLR CE.

  • Speaker -Bob Posey, Program Manager, AB Program, TDLR.

  • This course will cover the compilation of a complete and thorough variance application when a construction project owner believes that TAS compliance cannot be achieved.

• ​3:00 p.m. - 5:00 p.m. - Complete Barrier Free Design for Landscapes

  • ​TDLR# 14498 2CE (TAS), AIA/CES APA163 2 LU/HSW, ICC #5241 0.2 CEU

  • Speaker- Fred Cawyer, former APA President,  AIA, RAS, NCARB,ARS - Accessibility Resource Specialists PLLC

  • Specific requirements for play areas, golf course and other areas of recreation.  This program will identify common errors and clever solutions for designing accessible landscapes.

APA is an approved AIA/CES Provider (#G583), ICC Preferred Provider (#1321) and TDLR Provider CE (#1521). APA also provides a designation for those meeting the criteria for our  APA-ADA Specialist program(s).

Note - Obtain your annual TDLR - RAS required continuing education credits by attending the entire day.
