Description: The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) requires businesses to make reasonable accommodations for qualified employees with disabilities under Title I of the ADA. Title I only applies to businesses that have more than 15 employees. Title III of the ADA requires businesses, regardless of the number of employees, to make the goods and services they offer to the general public also available to customers and clients with disabilities.

In this episode of ADA Live!, Beth Milito, Senior Executive Counsel of the National Federation of Small Business, will discuss small business concerns, challenges, and best practices in accommodating both employees and customers. Topics include: Concerns small businesses have in accommodating their employees. How advocates can support small businesses in making their facilities accessible. Addressing the threat of "fly by" lawsuits. And future challenges small business may meet, including website accessibility and the aging workforce.

Elizabeth (Beth) Milito

Senior Executive Counsel, National Federation of Independent Business

Beth has been with National Federation of Independent Business (NFIB) as the Senior Executive Counsel since March 2004. She previously worked at the U.S. Department of Veteran’s Affairs where she defended the agency in employment and labor lawsuits and was responsible for training and counseling managers on fair employment and HR practices.

Ms. Milito has testified before Congress, federal agencies, and state legislatures on the small business impact of labor and employment issues. She also comments and writes regularly on small business cases before federal and state courts. Ms. Milito frequently counsels businesses facing employment discrimination charges, wage and hour claims, wrongful termination lawsuits, and in most other areas of human resources law. She also provides and develops on-line and on-site training on a variety of employment law matters and is a frequent media spokesperson on employment and labor matters.

She is a graduate of the University of Maryland School of Law and The George Washington University.
