The Department of Justice withdrew the notice of proposed rulemaking under Title II and Title III. DOJ has requested a Supplemental Advance Notice of Proposed Rulemaking (SANPRM) soliciting additional public comment on various website accessibility issues and asking for related cost information for preparing a regulatory impact analysis. Comments on the SANPRM must be submitted by August 8, 2016. The August 31 Webinar will provide participants with the current status of the ADA website accessibility proposed regulations with an overview of the process and public comments presented by Lex Frieden, Director of the ILRU and Principal Investigator for the Southwest ADA Center. Greg Vanderheiden, Director of the Global Public Inclusive Infrastructure (GPII) will provide an update on the Raising the Floor Global Public Inclusive Infrastructure (GPII) grant. The GPII grant was awarded by the US Department of Education’s Rehabilitation Services Administration to ensure that everyone who faces accessibility barriers due to disability, literacy, digital literacy, or aging, regardless of economic resources, can access and use the Internet and all its information, communities, and services for education, employment, daily living, civic participation, health, and safety. The Global Public Inclusive Infrastructure, a cloud-based personalized interface system that could change the landscape of assistive technologies.

Learning Objectives

  1. Participants will be able name three reasons why businesses and state agencies should not delay in making websites accessible.
  2. Participants will be able to provide one way a website maybe considered a “place of public accommodation” under the ADA.
  3. Participants will be able to identify three things the Global Pubic Inclusive Infrastructure grant is attempting to achieve.
