Description: This one-day course highlights significant changes to access regulations in the 2013 California Building Code (CBC), Chapter 11B, including amendments in the 2013 Intervening Code Adoption Cycle Supplement effective July 1, 2015 and new amendments in the 2016 CBC approved by the California Building Standards Commission in January 2016.

Chapter 11A (housing) is not covered. For Chapter 11A training, contact the California Department of Housing and Community Development.

Topics:

  • New Chapter 11B format based on the 2010 ADAS.

  • Available reference materials provided by the Division of the State Architect.

  • Scoping versus technical code sections.

  • Facilities not previously regulated in Chapter 11B include public housing, destination-oriented elevators, amusement rides, golf courses, miniature golf courses and more.

  • Difference between accessible route, path of travel and circulation path.

  • Answers a few of the questions frequently asked by code users.

  • Amendments in the 2016 CBC.

  • Understand how to analyze and apply the 2013 CBC provisions.

  • Understand the difference between the 2010 Americans with Disabilities Act Standards for Accessible Design and the 2013 CBC.

  • Be informed of the amendments to the 2013 CBC approved in the intervening code cycle.
