IDeA Universal Design E-World Online Training Course - Design for Human Performance (05/23/2016 - 06/19/2016)

May 23 - Jun 19, 2016   |   Organized by: Center for Inclusive Design and Environmental Access (IDeA)

Description

Date/Time: Start Date: 05/23/2016 | End Date: 06/19/2016

Location: Online

Description: This course examines the concept of human performance (the ability of people to complete activities and tasks) through the investigation of the four key bodies of knowledge related to human performance: anthropometry, biomechanics, perception, and cognition. The course summarizes each body of knowledge in terms of its relationship to universal design, and provides key design strategies for each.

Our online courses are for everyone: advocates, builders and contractors, planners, architects, occupational and physical therapists, and policymakers. Our expert staff will give anyone interested in the universal design of places, products, and systems the foundation needed to recognize, understand, appreciate, apply, and advocate for universal design in their homes, offices, and communities. The courses address the principles and knowledge bases relevant to solving many design problems using case studies to demonstrate the value of universal design.

All courses supplement their textbook (sold separately) with online video lectures (provided with transcripts), additional reading material, exams, projects, and a discussion board that connects students from around the world. Students will study independently while the instructor acts as guide and facilitator, assisting students with their studies and projects, and reviewing the progress of each student.

Students should expect to complete about 15 hours of work over a 4-week period. The course is asynchronous so there are no required sign in times. Students who complete all course materials will receive a certificate of completion for each course completed and a special certificate for completing all 11 courses. U.S. Architects will receive 15 hours of CEU credit (HSW) for completing qualifying courses.
