NEW Title III Certificate Now Available!

This specialized certificate is for individuals who complete specific courses on Title III (Public Accommodations) of the ADA.

Who can obtain this certificate? Currently, it's only available to those who've already earned their Title II ADA Coordinator Certification.

What sessions count for the Title III Certificate? Attendees wishing to obtain the Title III Certificate must attend all four "D" Track sessions on Tuesday, October 2nd.

Speakers

Melissa Anderson

Prior to starting her own consulting business, Melissa worked at the US Access Board, serving as their Transportation Engineer, developing accessibility guidelines and assisting Federal, State and Local Agencies in meeting their obligations to provide accessible facilities for people who have disabilities. Her work involved refining the proposed Public Right of Way Accessibility Guidelines, updating the Transportation Vehicle Accessibility Guidelines and leading the Rail Vehicles Access Advisory Committee. Melissa also continues to participate as a subject matter expert on several research panels and remains a member of two committees for the Transportation Research Board. Prior to her work for the Access Board, she was employed for 10 years with the Missouri Department of Transportation, where she was involved in traffic and safety data collection and analysis, research, standards development, and professional services procurement. Melissa became the statewide non-motorized transportation engineer, where she was responsible for developing pedestrian and bicycle policy, training staff and local agencies, and reviewing plans for accessibility.

Dana Barton

Dana Barton is the Director for The Rocky Mountain ADA Center (RMADAC). Her role within the organization is to lead the staff’s daily efforts to provide the Rocky Mountain Region with technical support, training, guidance and the most updated information pertaining to the Americans with Disabilities Act. Prior to joining RMADAC, Barton served as the Business Relations and Employment Development Director at the Pikes Peak Workforce Center in Colorado Springs, CO. In this role, she planned and implemented business services, and youth and adult programming under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act. In this role, Dana worked closely with community partners to provide training and development opportunities to individuals with disabilities to increase their employment opportunities. She brings to RMADA over 10 years of extensive work within the ADA’s Title I and Title III with the experience she gained as Director of Recruitment for the world-famous Broadmoor Hotel. Among her many accomplishments at The Broadmoor; she led a program that recruited students with disabilities from local school districts to work for the hotel as paid interns.

Bill Botten

Bill Botten, an Exercise Physiology graduate from the University of Kansas, joined the US Access Board in May of 2000. Bill specializes in accessibility issues related to recreation facilities and outdoor developed areas including boating and fishing facilities, trails, picnic and camping facilities, sports facilities and play areas. His training experience includes hundreds of presentations over the last 30 years to local, state, and national audiences on injury prevention, disability awareness and sensitivity, and accessibility issues. He was part of a team that developed the new combined guidelines for the Americans with Disabilities Act and the Architectural Barriers Act as well as serving on several ASTM committees for inclusive fitness equipment and play area surfaces.

Julie Brinkhoff

Julie oversees communications, publications, dissemination, data collection, reporting and outreach activities of the Great Plains ADA Center. Julie has a special interest in product development and dissemination through web-based platforms. She develops and produces the ACTCP publication,ADA Nowand serves as content manager for GP ADA Center websites. Julie is versed in all areas of the ADA and has designed and developed numerous materials on ADA related topics as well as on-line courses. She has given presentations and workshops on a wide range of ADA related topics including employment,child care, accessible websites and software, principles of universal design, and k-12 education. She has been involved with the Center since 1995. Julie received her Master’s Degree in Education with an emphasis in Student Services in 1985 from the University of Missouri.

Jana Burke

Dr. Jana L. Burke is the president and founder of Mariposa Professional Services, a consulting firm specializing in ADA compliance strategies for organizations with rights and responsibilities under the law. Dr. Burke is a researcher, trainer and consultant who specializes in the ADA employment provisions and workplace strategies for ADA compliance. (insert space) Prior to starting her own firm, she was the project director and principle investigator for the Rocky Mountain ADA Center, funded by the U.S. Department of Education’s National Institute on Disability & Rehabilitation Research. She has conducted more than 300 ADA-related training sessions for employers, businesses, professional organizations, attorneys, state and local government entities, disability organizations, and people with disabilities. (Insert Space)Dr. Burke received a Doctorate of Philosophy in Organization & Management from Capella University, a master’s degree in nonprofit management from Regis University, and is a graduate of The Colorado College where she earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in English.

Mike Edwards

Mike has been with the Great Plains ADA Center since 2001 where he serves as Missouri Coordinator. In 2010, Mike developed the ADA Coordinators Training Certification Program (ACTCP) in conjunction with the University of Missouri College of Human and Environmental Sciences. He coordinates all ACTCP activities. Mike has extensive experience in conducting access surveys, training on all areas of the ADA as well as providing technical assistance and consultation to individuals, businesses and communities.

Sarah Garcia

Sarah Garcia is the Training Facilitator for The Rocky Mountain ADA Center. RMADA serves a six-state service area: Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota by providing free technical support and training on the Americans with Disabilities Act. She educates and motivates individuals, businesses, and organizations about their rights and responsibilities under the ADA and other disability laws. Sarah has a bachelor’s degree in English and Psychology and a master’s in education from Truman State University.

Anna Guthrie

Anna develops graphics and multimedia content for training, materials, websites, publications, and publicity including fact sheets, posters, videos, slideshows and power-points. She assists in the National ADA Symposium including development of the conference app.

Leah Lobato

Leah Lobato is the Director of the Governor’s Committee on Employment of People with Disabilities and Business Relations with the Utah State Office of Rehabilitation. The mission of this position is to help promote the employment and retention of individuals with disabilities in competitive employment by promoting public and private partnerships and efforts. She networks, connects with and trains state, regional and national employers. She has a BS degree from the University of Utah and is a Certified Public Manager. Leah coordinates with the Department of Workforce Services (Utah’s DOL), Division of Services for People with Disabilities (DSPD), Division of Substance Abuse and Mental Health (DSAMH), etc. on various projects supporting employment of individuals with disabilities. Leah has worked with individuals with disabilities in varying areas of services. She has worked with adolescents with mental health issues and she has also acted as the coordinator for house affairs for disabled adults in independent living environments. She is on the board of Utah’s Chapter of Job Placement and Development, a member of the National Rehabilitation Association, Utah Rehabilitation Association, Utah Diversity Connections and the Utah Business Leadership Network.

Ed Neuberg

Ed Neuberg is the ADA Manager for Denver’s Regional Transportation District (RTD). Prior to working for RTD Ed worked for the City of Denver as Director of the Denver Office of Disability Rights and the City’s ADA Coordinator. Ed has been involved with the ADA for over 20 years. He has experience implementing ADA Titles I, II, & III, along with DOT/FTA requirements for transportation. Ed is a member of numerous boards and commissions which focus on the ADA, disability rights, and community acknowledgment/awards. Ed is a certified ADA Coordinator and has been a presenter at the 2010 -2016 National ADA Symposiums. He is a Member of the Rocky Mt. ADA Leadership Network, Board member National ADA Coordinators, Certified ADA Trainer and has a B.S. degree in Education from Colorado State University.

Emily Shuman

Emily Shuman is the media coordinator for The Rocky Mountain ADA Center. The organization serves a six-state service area: Colorado, Wyoming, Utah, Montana, North Dakota and South Dakota by providing free technical support and training on the Americans with Disabilities Act. She is responsible for engaging the region through social media, partnership development and community outreach. Emily has a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Western Governors University.

Paul Simmons

Born in South Africa, Paul Simmons feels that the greatest gift from his parents is the gift of language. Paul was born Deaf, to Deaf parents who were able to effectively communicate with Paul since birth. As a result, Paul is multi-lingual, being able to converse in several sign languages including ASL. While in South Africa, Paul was actively involved with the Deaf community there including being the first Deaf Executive chairperson of the largest and oldest Deaf organization in South Africa. After moving to the United States to attend Gallaudet University. After obtaining his second MS degree from McDaniel College, Paul has worked within the Education sector, educating Deaf children in the secondary level, and post-secondary levels. Paul specializes in research, Deaf Studies, Social Studies, and International Disability Rights. Paul’s passion is in how the law relates to people with disabilities and has developed a course in International Disability Rights Movement and has consulted with the International Deaf Emergency organization. Currently, Paul is employed at the Rocky Mountain ADA center as an ADA Information Specialist handling queries relating to rights of individuals with disabilities.

Rich Sternadori

Rich coordinates and delivers ADA Center services for the State of Nebraska including training, technical assistance, consulting and capacity building. Rich holds a Masters of Education and Counseling Psychology from the University of Missouri, with a specialty in rehabilitation and trauma psychology and has completed significant coursework toward his PhD. Rich served 16 years as a Chief Building Official and Zoning administrator and was appointed in 1993 by Governor Ann Finney to the Kansas State Board of Technical Professions for architects and engineers. Rich is a Certified Rehabilitation Counselor and a member of the Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters (VOAD) in his community. Richard has been leading the Nebraska Disabilities Alliance program, bringing together the agencies on the front line of serving people with disabilities to better prepare for emergencies.
