MORE INFORMATION
Affecting more than 11 million people each year, Macular Degeneration is a medical condition which is a major cause of blindness and visual impairment in older adults ages 50 years and older. This debilitating damage to the retina, known as Macular Degeneration, can make it difficult or impossible to read or recognize faces, although enough peripheral vision remains to allow other activities of daily life. Macular Degeneration is a disease that requires continuing educational resources and cutting edge technology.
White Cane Safety Day is a national observance in the United States, celebrated on October 15 of each year since 1964. The date is set aside to celebrate the achievements of people who are blind or visually impaired and the important symbol of blindness and tool of independence, the white cane. In 2011, White Cane Safety Day was also named Blind Americans Equality Day by President Barack Obama.
