Transportation Works: Identifying and Removing Barriers Through Innovation
March 01-02, 2017   |   Organized by: Texas State Independent Living Council (SILC), Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities (TCDD)
Texas State Independent Living Council (SILC) has partnered with Texas Council for Developmental Disabilities (TCDD) to host five annual transportation summits across Texas. The first summit, Transportation Works: Identifying and Removing Barriers Through Innovation, will be held in Austin, Texas and will focus on efforts to expand inclusive transportation for all Texans.
Through this initiative, Texas SILC hopes to initiate a stakeholder dialogue comprising of traditional transportation collaborators as well as organizations that comprise the coalition of proponents of the Independent Living Movement and create sustainable change by taking steps to increasing accessible transportation in Texas for the nearly 1.9 million Texans with disabilities who report not leaving their home due to inadequate transportation services (TCDD website, http://tcdd.texas.gov/transportation-barriers-texas/, October 20, 2015). This event will also focus on methods for consumers to create change in the community by hearing from transportation experts and policymakers on plans for Travis County and Texas, learning advocacy techniques and strategies for engaging policymakers, and discovering new innovations or resources that may increase mobility in your community.
The accessible transportation summit will be held on March 1st and the morning of March 2nd at Holiday Inn Midtown, 6000 Middle Fiskville Road in Austin, Texas. This location is conveniently located close to downtown Austin, is across the street from Greyhound Station, is a few blocks for Metro Rail, and is on a fixed route serviced by Cap Metro.
Come participate in helping keep Texans on the move and ensuring Texans with disabilities can thrive in their communities.
