Overview: With over 1.2 million apps available for download in the App Store, the responsibility to address accessibility of these apps has often been left to the developers. Apple has made it easy for developers to include accessibility in the design of the apps with technologies such as VoiceOver, gestures and Braille displays. This webinar will discuss the industry standards for accessibility and challenges from a developer’s viewpoint. It will use the case study of creating the National Federation of the Blind Newsline® Mobile App to discuss these issues.

1. Understand IOS built-in accessibility for developing apps
2. Work with Apple’s IOS simulator and other development tools
3. Design an accessible app




Frank Hoey, Senior IOS Developer, Data Speech Solutions

Frank Hoey is a developer who has worked with Web and mobile application design for over 15 years. Frank has been very active in Web and mobile accessibility since 2005 and understands accessibility laws and guidelines. His knowledge includes user experience for larger enterprise systems and accessibility testing and optimization for mobile applications.

Scott White, Director of Sponsored Technology Programs, National Federation of the Blind

Scott White, who holds degrees in business management and computer programming, has managed the NFB-NEWSLINE® service for the National Federation of the Blind since 2006. Prior to working for the NFB, Scott was employed by Circuit City Stores, Inc., in Richmond, Virginia, as a Senior Systems Administrator for 10 years.
