About Us
AILH was founded by a group of experienced, committed and dedicated professionals who wanted to give persons with disabilities in Hawaii the choice of where to receive independent living services. The majority of board members and staff are persons with disabilities.
The concept behind independent living (IL) is the empowerment of persons with disabilities to make choices in their lives that will enhance their dignity and self-respect, and provide full integration into the community as equal citizens with all the privileges and responsibilities available to others.
The practice of “consumer control” forms the foundation for staff resources and service delivery. We follow the best practice and IL philosophy of “nothing about us, without us.”
Mission
Aloha Independent Living Hawaii (AILH) is a recently established grass roots 501 (c)(3) non profit organization whose mission is to provide independent living programs and services for persons with disabilities in Hawaii.
