Montana is one state that has some unique challenges for it’s senior population. Due to Montana’s sheer size, and due to the large proportion of rural areas, many small towns and areas may not have adequate senior care close by. Seniors may need to move to a larger city to receive the care they need, or to find an appropriate assisted living facility.
Fortunately, help and assistance can be had through a number of agencies and programs provided through the State of Montana, and through help from Federal resources.
The State of Montana Senior and Long-Term Care division is a great “one-stop” portal of information where seniors, families, and caregivers may find information and assistance to help them locate senior care through the Information, Assistance and Referral Program.
Designed for Montana’s seniors, this program can help Montana’s aging population, as well as their families and caregivers to learn about and discover the services they need, based on their unique situation, finances, and location.
Additionally, each county and area of Montana is covered by a local Area Agency on Aging, which is designed to help seniors and families on a more local level.
Currently, Montana has 10 Area Agnecies on Aging serving seniors who live independently, and those who reside in a long-term care setting like assisted living. Intro by D. Besnette
