An Overview of North Dakota’s Medicaid Waivers
North Dakota is a land of contrasts, which can present challenges to it’s aging population. Although there are a handful of larger cities in North Dakota, including Fargo, Bismarck, and Grand Forks, most of this northern state consists of farmland and rural counties. Few, if any senior services or assisted living facilities may exist in these areas – forcing seniors who need care in these areas to look elsewhere. If seniors decide to stay put, the caregiving duties often fall on family members.
We are fortunate in America, and in North Dakota that we are served by state and federal agencies and programs to assist seniors and caregivers, whether they are rural or urban, and if they live at home, or perhaps in a long-term care environment.
Fortunately, New Mexico’s seniors and their don’t have to go it alone. New Mexico has a number of agencies and programs designed to support this state’s aging population, and to help them to find care, or assist with any other aging issue. The New Mexico State Agency on Aging is a great place to start. Within the agency, the The Aging & Disability Resource Center (ADRC) can help you with questions regarding Long-Term Care options, Medicare and Medicaid help; Veteran’s Services; Caregiving Support and quite a bit more. We encourage you to explore what the ADRC has to offer. In addition, for more ‘localized’ help, you can refer to one of New Mexico’s Area Agencies on Aging, which are designed to help seniors and families within groups of counties, and specific areas within New Mexico. New Mexico can be considered a ‘land of extremes’ when it comes to Senior Care and Assisted Living Facility Choices. On one hand, the larger cities like Albuquerque and Santa Fe have so many choices, it can almost be overwhelming.
On the other hand, New Mexico has thousands of square miles of countryside, rural areas, and counties served by perhaps only a small assortment of small towns. Senior Care and long-term care services can be few and far between.
In either case, our advisors have helped hundreds of New Mexico’s seniors and families to find the best care situation at the most affordable price.
This is a free service, and we can help with the smallest of questions, or help you through each step of finding care.
