DAWN Center for Independent Living is a nonprofit organization serving people with disabilities in the New Jersey counties of Morris, Sussex, and Warren. From our three locations, DAWN’s dedicated and professional staff work with consumers following a self-directed philosophy. This means that consumers are always empowered to make their own decisions and set their own goals.
We provide a wide range of services for people with disabilities in the areas of advocacy, information and referral, peer support, and independent living skills training. We offer employment services, life skills training classes, and recreational activities for adults, youth and young adults. DAWN also provides services like support coordination and care management under a number of state programs. DAWN’s comprehensive services are a critical part of the support network that enables people with disabilities residing in Morris, Sussex, and Warren counties to live independently in their communities.
DAWN is one of 11 Centers for Independent Living (CILs) in New Jersey, and one of nearly 500 CILs nationwide. All of DAWN’s programs and services embody the principles of the Independent Living philosophy, which asserts that people with disabilities should have the same civil rights, choices, and control as do people without disabilities. DAWN currently serves over 1,000 people in Morris, Sussex, and Warren counties. Services are funded through state and federal grants, membership contributions, donations, fundraising, and a host of agencies and foundations that have partnered with DAWN to realize equal opportunities and inclusion for people with disabilities.
