To assist people with disabilities to achieve the highest potential and benefit of independent living by providing them, those who support them and the community with information, education, and resources.
What is the Disability Resource Center?
The dRC, located in Fredericksburg, VA, is a Center for Independent Living (CIL) that serves people with disabilities, their families and caretakers, and community members. CILs are community-based, cross-disability, cross-lifespan, non-profit organizations. CILs are unique in that they operate according to a philosophy of consumer control, wherein the majority of its staff and Board are people with all types of disabilities. The dRC adheres to the philosophy that every individual has the right, the opportunity and the choice to maximize their abilities to live as independently as possible and to participate in the community as fully as they choose.
Centers for Independent Living, including the dRC, provide Peer Support, Information and Referral, Individual and Systems Advocacy, Independent Living Skills Training and other community supports and services as needed by the locality.
The dRC serves the city of Fredericksburg and Caroline, King George, Spotsylvania and Stafford Counties. Deaf and Hard of Hearing services and Social Security Benefits Counseling is provided in some neighboring areas. Call the dRC for more information.
