Our Mission
Easter Seals Cardinal Hill is driven by a tireless passion to champion people of all ages, ensuring that everyone, regardless of ability or life challenge, has the opportunity to live, learn, work and play in our communities.
History
Cardinal Hill was built with the love and support of an entire community as its cornerstone.
The original Cardinal Hill Convalescent Home, envisioned as a facility to care for children living with the devastating effects of polio, became a reality in 1950. Within months of its opening, the 50-bed Convalescent Home had a census of 69 patients – already needing to expand. Over the intervening years, several additions have been made to meet the community’s needs. With healthcare changes and evolving community demands for rehabilitation services, Cardinal Hill grew again. The new expansion brought the Hospital to a capacity of 232 patient-care beds in 2011. Truly, Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital was built because of the ongoing care and generous giving of the community it serves.
And now today, fluctuations in healthcare have once again brought about new changes for the Hospital. Cardinal Hill Rehabilitation Hospital entered into an agreement with HealthSouth on February 3, 2015 for the sale of the Hospital’s operations. HealthSouth’s expertise in providing high quality outcomes in inpatient and outpatient physical rehabilitation care will enable Cardinal Hill Hospital to continue its heritage of the highest quality services to our community and the Commonwealth.
Easter Seals Cardinal Hill will now be able to focus on services to help meet the community needs that are not met by an inpatient rehabilitation hospital, skilled nursing facility, or home care and general physical therapy services. The Foundation’s three signature programs are: (1) Adaptive Recreation (2) Adult Day Health and (3) Creative Beginnings Child Development Center. It is our goal to make them model programs in our community, region and the nation. We are also investigating service gaps and community needs with the intent of adding new services and expanding the programs listed above. As Cardinal Hill Easter Seals Foundation continues to develop and grow its services to meet the needs of children and adults with disabilities and their families, the Foundation will partner with all of their stakeholders to ensure that it remains a vibrant and dynamic provider of services in Kentucky.
The organization will continue with its Internal Revenue Code Section 501(c)(3) status as a charitable organization and donations are tax deductible. The organization is an affiliate of Easter Seals, Inc., the national organization with which it has been affiliated since the beginning of Cardinal Hill sixty-four (64) years ago. Easter Seals, Inc. is the nation’s largest nonprofit organization providing health-related programs.
As we move forward, Easter Seals Cardinal Hill will use the past as its guide to realize dreams and goals can become reality when it has the community’s support and shared vision. Join us as we write a new chapter in the History of Cardinal Hill.
