Independent Living Resource Center (ILRC) - Albuquerque, Alamogordo, Moriarty, and Socorro, NM
Location: Albuquerque, Alamogordo, Moriarty, and Socorro, NM.
The Independent Living Resource Center (ILRC) is a private, nonprofit agency. It was founded in 1989 to encourage and empower individuals with disabilities to participate fully in family, community, and work life. ILRC is a place where people with disabilities can come for information and resources, advocacy, inspiration, support, and other services. It is not a place to live. We believe in dignity, freedom, and choice for people with disabilities. ILRC serves individuals with all types of disabilities and of all ages.
As a consumer-controlled agency, at least 51% of the staff and Board of Directors of ILRC are individuals with disabilities. The Center receives ongoing funding from both federal and state sources.
Using a self-help peer oriented model, we provide advocacy and remove barriers that prevent people with disabilities from full and equal participation in all aspects of community life. Our service area for Independent Living Services encompasses Bernalillo, Cibola, DeBaca, Guadalupe, Lincoln, Otero, Sandoval, Socorro, Torrance, and Valencia Counties. The Technical Services Program is also available in Chavez, Doña Ana, Eddy, Lea, Luna, and Roosevelt Counties.
ILRC is part of a nationwide movement known as the Independent Living Movement, through which control is vested in persons with disabilities. During its 23-year history, ILRC has become an integral part of the community of people with disabilities in New Mexico.
Mission Statement
ILRC provides services designed to empower people with disabilities to foster independence in their lives.
