Rebuilding Together Howard County is a local affiliate of Rebuilding Together, a national organization that includes 166 affiliates serving 500 communities nationwide. Rebuilding Together’s national headquarters was launched in 1988 with a commitment to spread the program to every state.

Today, the Rebuilding Together Affiliate Network consists of 200 chapters, located throughout the United States. Collectively, Rebuilding Together has completed work on more than 100,000 homes across the nation. With the help of 3.4 million volunteers, Rebuilding Together has delivered over $1.3 billion in market value since its founding.

Our People

Rebuilding Together Howard County is an all volunteer organization. We are able to keep our overhead expenses low due to the fact that our 20-member board of directors volunteer their time in addition to 800 to 1000 volunteers who do the work each April. Plumbers, electricians and carpenters also volunteer to repair homes of needy homeowners to allow them to live in houses which are safe, warm and dry.

Rebuilding Together Howard County, formerly known as Christmas in April, is the local affiliate and was formed in 1992 when a group of committed Howard County Residents and businesses joined together to mobilize volunteers and provide free home repairs to low-income families in Howard County. For many of these home owners, these repairs were truly a gift.

Even though our name has changed, our mission remains the same! We are still committed to improving the lives of the elderly, individuals with disabilities, veterans, and families with children; all homeowners in Howard County who have worked hard, but can no longer afford to keep up with repairs. Today, the need is even greater in the midst of the difficult economic climate.

Rebuilding Together Howard County has repaired and renovated over 650 homes in Howard County- at no cost to the homeowner. We are able to do this through a unique combination of corporate sponsorship, volunteer labor, discounted services, donations of building materials and bulk ordering discounts.

In addition to sponsoring a home repair project, many sponsors also choose to show their support by providing a volunteer team on our annual National Rebuilding Day held in April. Each team opts to “adopt a house” on behalf of their company or organization and will work directly with the homeowner to make the necessary repairs during a a very rewarding day of service.
