About Us
Rebuilding Together Long Beach (RTLB) develops partnerships within the community to rebuild owner-occupied homes and non-profit facilities for low-income residents, particularly the elderly or those with disabilities, so they may live independently with dignity, in warmth and safety. All services are at no cost to the recipient(s).
Our parent organization, Rebuilding Together, Inc., is one of the nation’s leading nonprofit organization working to preserve affordable home ownership and revitalize communities. Rebuilding Together Long Beach is part of Rebuilding Together, Inc.’s network of more than 150 affiliates that provide free rehabilitation and critical repairs for homeowners who are financially and/or physically unable to perform the work themselves, including those who are elderly or disabled, veterans, and families with children. Additionally, we assist nonprofits and community organizations which serve similar clientele. Visit rebuildingtogether.org for more information about all the initiatives, news, and events taking place across the country.
While RTLB supports year-round work days, we emphasize National Rebuilding Month in April and Make a Difference Month in October. On every work day, we dispatch work teams comprised of general volunteers who work side-by-side with professional contractors and trades-people, many of whom generously donate their time and their talents. An array of national and community partners support our workdays by donating funds, materials, supplies, equipment, and meals for our volunteers. We greatly value each and every one of these teammates; without their contributions, our community work would not be possible.
The impact to these homes and these families is as immediate as it is amazing. Individual volunteers and whole groups of volunteers often return year after year, finding it impossible not to be moved and inspired by the positive results of their efforts. And homeowners are impressed with our work; as one woman – a fourth-generation homeowner – wrote us, "To see so many people that gave of their time and talents to help others was truly inspiring; [it] brought tears to my eyes [and] really touched my heart … I am truly blessed to live in such a warm, friendly, and caring community." This is why we do it!
