This month, the Modern Woodmen Park in Davenport, Iowa installed an ADA-accessible gondola on the city-owned Ferris wheel. According to a Quad-City Times report, the city was threatened with legal action and quickly contracted with a local company to modify the ride as needed to accommodate persons with mobility disabilities. The city must do some final testing and adjusting, but says it will be opening to the public soon. The $40k gondola seats four people or one person in a wheelchair with a companion, including an ADA-compliant turning space. In addition, they have constructed a wheelchair-accessible loading zone with a ramp to bridge the gap between the platform and gondola.
