Participate in Research: Non-Traditional Employment of People with Disabilities
Published: May 31, 2018 at 1:05AM
From Georgia Tech's Center for Advanced Communications Policy (CACP):
Georgia Tech is conducting a project to understand the experiences of people with disabilities within non-traditional work, such as temping, contracting, and freelancing. The goal of our project is to understand “non-traditional” job experiences among persons with disabilities. Examples include non-permanent jobs such as:
- Working for a temp agency with different assignments.
- Freelancing as a writer or photographer.
- Performing contract or piecemeal work.
- Doing app-based jobs such as Uber, Lyft, Handy, or TaskRabbit.
Our research focuses on how people with disabilities find and obtain these types of work. We also are interested in learning how such jobs affect your everyday life. Some questions of interest include:
- How do non-traditional jobs impact your social and financial well-being?
- How do non-traditional jobs affect family and community activities?
- Does your disability affect your ability to perform non-traditional work?
- What are your expectations for work?
If you work in a nontraditional job and are interested in sharing your experience, we invite you to participate in telephone interviews for this study.
Participants must be over 18 years of age, able to understand and speak English or American Sign Language, have a disability, and engage in non-permanent full- or part-time work. Qualified participants will be interviewed by phone or video relay for 60-90 minutes and will be compensated for their time. For more information, contact Salimah LaForce at 404/894-8297 or salimah@cacp.gatech.edu.
