Audio description (AD) is narration that has been added to a video to make visual content accessible to individuals who are blind or have other visual disabilities. In general, AD captures significant actions and text-based information provided onscreen. AD is required by law according to 1194.22(b), 1194.24(c) and 1194.24(d) of Section 508 of the Rehabilitation Act. The U.S. Access Board is in the process of updating the Section 508 Standards and audio description has finally been defined in E103.4 of the Notice of Proposed Rulemaking published in February of 2015.
