Product Description

Closed Captioning & Subtitling Are Our Business

At Video Caption Corporation, we provide high quality English and Spanish offline closed captioning, and multi-language subtitling services for video and DVDs. We close caption and subtitle video in standard and high definition formats, as well as for the Internet. With offices in New York and Burbank, California, our friendly and knowledgeable staff will get your captioning or subtitling project done on time and within budget.

Our clients include broadcasters, corporations, independent producers, schools, libraries, churches and government agencies. Wherever there is a need for quality captioning or subtitling, we are there to meet it.

Closed Captioning Services

Video Caption Corporation is a full-service closed captioning company. We offer high-quality English, French and Spanish closed captioning services for all types of programming. Unlike many other closed captioning companies, our captioning is done in-house from start to finish – from transcription to encoding – allowing us to offer our clients fast turnarounds, strict quality control and extremely competitive prices.

Our captioning service has been evaluated by the Described and Captioned Media Program (DCMP), and Video Caption Corporation has been approved as a vendor for the DCMP's Office of Special Education Programs, U.S. Department of Education. The DCMP is the only organization which evaluates the quality of captions produced in the United States and fewer than 10% of the companies offering closed captioning services have met their strict standards.

We also lead the industry by offering three distinct closed captioning styles to meet every need and budget. We can encode captions to all standard definition tape formats, as well as professional high definition formats such as D-5, DVCPRO HD, HDCAM and HDCAM SR. And with more and more stations now accepting programs in digital file formats, we can embed closed captioning data in all commonly accepted file types, including Apple ProRes, H.264, MXF, MPEG-2 Program Streams and MPEG-2 Transport Streams.

Three Distinct Closed Captioning Styles

Video Caption Corporation offers all of its captioning at competitive rates. Because our captioning service is done in-house, we can provide you with an extremely fast turnaround when your schedule demands it.

Choose from the following captioning styles:

  1. Basic Roll-up - We understand that while the FCC may have mandated closed captioning for your show, it didn't increase your budget to pay for it. Our Basic Roll-up style captions are accurately transcribed, carefully timed, free of typos, and will never cover your onscreen graphics. All unfamiliar terms are diligently researched for proper spelling, and the same multiple-level quality control reviews we apply to our Pop-on style and Premium Roll-up style captions are applied to our Basic Roll-up style closed captions.

  2. Premium Roll-up - In addition to the high quality of our Basic Roll-up style captions, our Premium Roll-up style captions include a number of features that significantly increase overall readability. For example, when we move captions to avoid covering onscreen graphics, we do not simply relocate the three-line block of text. Instead, we anticipate the move by taking the text off the screen at the end of the sentence immediately prior to the graphic, and then begin the next sentence with the text in the new location. When consistent with the audio, we also time the text to come off the screen at the end of a scene and begin again at the start of the next scene. While this feature is common with high-quality pop-on style closed captions, it is virtually unheard of with roll-up.

  3. Traditional Pop-up - We carefully place Traditional Pop-on style captions on the screen to indicate the speaker, and include descriptions of music and sound effects. They are the ideal choice for entertainment programming, where you commonly have multiple characters onscreen simultaneously.

Subtitling Services

Video Caption Corporation is a full-service subtitling company. We offer the highest quality subtitling services for all types of programming, allowing you to share your English or Spanish-language programming with audiences around the world. Through our network of experienced subtitle translators we can provide subtitles in over 60 different languages.

Localization, Not Just Translation

While most competent subtitling companies can provide a literal translation into the desired language, our subtitle translators understand that their job is not just to translate, but to "localize." This requires fluency in the appropriate dialects and the use of culturally relevant idioms.

Although native language subtitles are typically verbatim, translated subtitles are often paraphrased to provide the essential meaning of the dialog within the time constraints of the on-screen video, maintaining a comfortable reading rate for the viewer.

Our translators are native speakers of the target language, completely fluent in the source language, and highly experienced in the art of subtitle translation. And to maintain the absolute highest quality control, each translation is reviewed by at least two translators.

Video or DVD Subtitling

We provide subtitles for video or DVDs. Video subtitles are created using the most sophisticated character generators and broadcast quality VTRs. Our DVD subtitle files are compatible with all major authoring systems, including Apple, Adobe, Panasonic, Spruce, Sonic Systems, Toshiba, and Sony. We also offer professional DVD Authoring services, from basic autoplay to complex multi-feature projects.

Choice of Formats and Styles

We offer both standard format translated subtitles and English-language Subtitles for the Deaf and Hard of Hearing (SDH). Using the most advanced technology, we can customize the style of your subtitles with your choice from a wide range of options in fonts, type size and text color, as well as background, edging, drop shadow and anti-aliasing. We can also recommend a style based on your particular programming.

Our Clients

We've been providing subtitling services since 1997 to a broad range of organizations, including corporations, independent producers, schools, libraries, and government agencies. Wherever there is a need for quality subtitling, we are there to meet it!

Internet Captioning and Subtitling

Add captioning to your Internet video and make it accessible to millions of deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals! Video Caption Corporation can caption your English or Spanish-language video to all common Internet video formats, including QuickTime, RealVideo, Windows Media and Flash. Because we do our Internet captioning in-house from start to finish – from transcription to transcoding – we can offer clients fast turnarounds, strict quality control and extremely competitive prices.

No need to schedule your Internet captioning or subtitling project weeks in advance. Using state-of-the-art, non-linear workstations, we can assign multiple subtitle editors to work on the same program simultaneously, providing our clients with the fastest turnarounds and highest quality in the industry.

Captioning and Subtitling Formats

Video Caption Corporation provides captioning and subtitling in all streaming media formats, for all players and devices, including Apple's iPod and iPhone.

Choose from:

  1. Traditional Internet Captioning -

If you're streaming QuickTime, RealVideo or Windows Media, you can provide your video to us in a variety of formats — from tape to digital files. We will then caption your video and output a caption data file compatible with your desired Internet video format. Your webmaster will link the file to your video, making your video accessible to millions of deaf and hard-of-hearing individuals.

We also offer transcoding services. Just send us your video via tape, Firewire drive, or upload to our FTP server, and we will transcode it to the video format of your choice. You can provide us with your own specifications, or go with one of our standard settings.

  2. Flash Captioning - Providing extremely high quality with relatively small file sizes, Flash video is taking over the Internet. For experienced Flash developers and those who want to implement the caption integration themselves, we can caption your video and provide you with Flash captioning data files. Alternatively, you can send us your video on tape and we’ll caption it, capture it, transcode it, and publish it to a finished swf or html file, complete with a "CC" button to turn the captions on and off — all ready to add to your site. Ask about our Flash captioning solution featuring an optional full-screen capability — ideal for classroom or large audience viewing!

  3. Open Captioning - With open captioning, you can eliminate user configuration issues completely. Just offer two versions of your video: one with captions burned onto the video and one without. By making these choices clearly visible onscreen and easy to use, you can reduce the number of routine user queries.

Simply send us your video and we can either return the open captioned version on the tape format of your choice, or transcode it to QuickTime, RealVideo, Windows Media, or Flash, which you can then download from our FTP server. We can transcode to your specifications or you can choose to go with one of our standard settings.

Other Services

Video Caption Corporation aims to satisfy all your video captioning and subtitling requirements by offering these additional services:

Video Format Conversion

Is your master on BetaSP, but the station needs DigiBeta? Does one station require DVCAM, and another DVCPRO, or HDCAM? No problem – we can convert video programs to a growing range of alternate formats. We can work with all major formats, including Betacam, BetaSP, DigiBeta, BetaSX, MPEG IMX, VHS, S-VHS, DVCAM, DVCPRO, DVCPRO(50), Consumer DV, D-2, 3/4" U-matic and 1" Type C, as well as XDCAM, HDCAM and DVCPRO HD.

Program Duplication

We offer the convenience of program duplication on tape and DVD. This is especially convenient when sending caption master tapes to different broadcast stations, each requiring a different tape format.

V-Chip Encoding

The V-Chip is an FCC-mandated feature found in every television set 13 inches or larger sold in America after January 1, 2000. It blocks or blurs the video, and mutes the audio, of television programming based on its program content advisory, or rating. We can insert V-Chip rating codes during the caption encoding process.
